BREAKING NEWS: Cambridge Union Debates Officer resigns 1 week after being barred from Presidential-run, confirmed by the Cambridge Union.

This is a breaking news story, all persons of interest in this matter, notably the officer in question – Pollyanna Greene-Wright – and the Cambridge Union Society, have been contacted with a reasonable period of response, and we will provide more updates as and when we can.

Find below a Press Statement issued by the Cambridge Union Society, who requested the statement to be printed in full.

Pollyanna Greene-Wright was contacted for comment in response to the statement and provided the following statement:

“I indeed resigned a week after I was wrongly found guilty of electoral misconduct via a process of investigation which was totally at odds with the constitution. The core basis of these false claims was allegations of pre-campaigning, and I have launched an appeal into the investigation’s findings on a variety of very strong grounds. This was not the first time the Union’s complaints procedure has been weaponised against me, with all previous attempts to find me guilty of misconduct having been proven to hold no truth whatsoever. This latest “investigation” is simply a continuation of a targeted and toxic culture of harassment. After completing my duty to the membership by overseeing my final debate, I decided I could no longer in good conscious stay on and legitimise such an atmosphere, especially when there has been a total absence of welfare support. Those targeted are left largely to fend for themselves. I also find it deeply disappointing that the Union have claimed they have a strong welfare system, when anyone who has been on standing can verify there is almost no welfare to speak of, and a well-known pervading atmosphere of fear which prevents those of good conscience from highlighting wrongdoing.”

This is a developing story, with more information to come.
